Asli Uzumcu
Associate Attorney
Asli Nur Uzumcu is an Associate Attorney at Canero Fadul Reis Law, bringing a deep commitment to client-centered advocacy shaped by her diverse legal experience in immigration, family law, children’s rights, and civil litigation. As the daughter of Turkish immigrants and a first-generation lawyer, Asli’s dedication to justice is rooted in her multicultural upbringing and her lifelong belief in expanding access to legal representation for underserved and unheard communities.
Asli earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Psychology, from New York University (NYU), where she was actively involved in the Undergraduate Law Society and the Turkish Political Society. She was awarded a certificate of excellence by NYU for her volunteer work while in school. She later pursued her legal education at the University of Miami School of Law before completing her Juris Doctor at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law.
During law school, Asli trained extensively in litigation and client advocacy through the Children and Family Law Clinic, where she handled matters involving custody, divorce, dependency, and representation of minors. Her work provided her with a strong foundation in civil procedure and the practical and ethical responsibilities central to family law.
Asli further developed her litigation skills, where she contributed to cases involving child abuse, neglect, and sexual assault. She worked on behalf of vulnerable, neglected and abused children. Asli also volunteered at the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County while in law school, in the Rapid Response Eviction Assistance Project by providing legal advice and representation to tenants facing eviction. She helped tenants resolve landlord-tenant disputes regarding non-payment of rent with mediation, settlement agreements, eviction defense, and by educating tenants about their rights under Florida law.
Her commitment to immigration law and advocacy is shown by several years of experience in immigration law at prominent firms in Miami and New York. As a law clerk, she worked on all stages of employment-based immigration—ranging from EB-1A Extraordinary Ability petitions to EB-2 National Interest Waivers and PERM cases—and prepared O-1 visas that were successfully approved. Earlier in her career, she served as a paralegal working on E-2, EB-5 and H-1B immigrant and non-immigrant visa applications for international corporations, artists, athletes, and other professionals.
Beyond her legal practice, Asli has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to civic engagement and education. She taught civics to high school students in Harlem, NY and led lessons on public policy issues such as gun violence and police accountability. Her professional path also includes early experience with respected law firms in Istanbul and New York, as well as volunteer work with UNICEF in Los Angeles.
Fluent in English and Turkish, and proficient in Spanish and French, Asli brings a culturally informed and compassionate perspective to her work. She is especially passionate about serving immigrant families and individuals navigating complex legal systems—work that reflects both her professional expertise and her personal roots.
When she is not practicing law, Asli enjoys dancing, cooking, traveling, yoga, and studying history.
